Intercosmos-19 data reveal that the shape of the main ionospheric trough under near-midnight undisturbed conditions in winter depends strongly on longitude. The trough is most pronounced at longitudes where the greatest equatorward shift of the trough is observed. It is concluded that this effect is connected with the strength of the magnetospheric-convection electric field at subauroral latitudes; this field depends strongly on longitude.
