The large solar flare of 1972 August 2 was accompanied by a very intense radio burst. Observations of the radio burst by a 35-GHz solar interferometer enabled the relationship between the optical flare and the radio burst to be studied. Location of the radio emission is compared with a sketch of the sunspot group. Rotation of the sun between the time of the radio and optical observations was corrected by assuming the rigid rotation of the sun. Location of the radio emission region is restricted to a narrow part of the active region.
