Tadpole galaxies have a giant star-forming region at the end of an elongated intensity distribution. The origin of this asymmetric structure is not known, although suggestions range from ram pressure to mergers. We use SDSS data to determine the ages, masses, surface densities, and star formation rates of the heads and tails in 13 local tadpoles identified from Kiso and Michigan surveys and compare them to tadpoles previously surveyed in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. The young stellar mass in the head scales linearly with restframe galaxy luminosity, ranging from 105 Mo at galaxy U = -13 mag to 109 Mo at U = -20 mag. The young star surface density in the head is relatively small for local tadpoles, 1 Mo pc-2, but much larger for high redshift tadpoles, 10 - 100 Mo pc-2. The star formation rate per unit area increases with increasing redshift by 2 orders of magnitude from z=0 to 3.
