For my PhD dissertation I have carried out various time-distance analyses of local helioseismology exploiting the recent high-resolution datasets obtained by Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) onboard the Hinode satellite. Using these data I have investigated four topics: 1) sunspot oscillations, 2) helioseismic signature of chromospheric downflows in acoustic travel-time measurements, 3) statistical properties of the time-distance cross-correlation functions, and 4) supergranulation flow patterns in the polar regions of the Sun. In this presentation, I briefly overview the main results of my dissertation, and focus on the investigation of the supergranular structure in the polar regions. Using SOT measurements of solar oscillations in the CaII H line during the periods of the highest inclination of the solar axis, I have measured the travel-time shifts of acoustic waves traveling to various depths below the photosphere, and obtained the subphotospheric horizontal flow maps in high-latitude regions by inversion. Previously, because of the foreshortening these regions were unaccessible for local helioseismology analyses. The Hinode/SOT observations have allowed us to detect the supergranular cells in the polar regions and study properties of these cells. The results show a curious alignment of the supergranular cells in the polar regions, approximately in the North-South direction. Similar observations of the low-latitude regions close to the solar limb do not show such alignment. Future helioseismology observations from Hinode will help to investigate the origin and evolution of the longitudinal alignment. I compare the helioseismology results with theoretical models and numerical simulations and discuss possible implications of these results.
