System verification is broadly concerned with the validation of a product's performance characteristics against set requirements. It's a task that historically has relied mostly on test methods. With advancement in simulation technology, definitely there is opportunity for use of simulation also in system verification, for example to verify product's components or subsystems. More use of simulation, also leads to a different use of testing, which in turn pushes forward new requirements for testing. So advancements in system verification concerns both advancement with test and simulation technology, methods and practice, and it is this combined progress in both areas that will be essential to cope with the challenges of system verification on ever more complex structures. This paper is a summary of a presentation delivered in the plenary session on "System Verification" at the 5th International Symposium on Environmental Testing for Space Programs, ESA, Noordwijk, 15-17 June 2004. It summarizes some developments and recent advancement with testing, test data processing and simulation, that are integrated in test and simulation solutions from LMS International: (1) multi-channel data acquisition and data reduction for modal survey and qualification testing, (2) modal identification methods, (3) operating modal identification, and (4) modeling of variability and uncertainty in simulation models.
