Astronomer to the Chinese war-lord Wang Mang. A hundred years before
Ptolemy he constructed astronomical tables, and listed 1080 stars in six
magnitude categories. He determined the year to be 365.2502 days. In AD
4, he organized a national congress on the modern scale, attended by
1000 scientists....
