Low ionization nuclear emission line regions (LINERs) are characterised by their emission line spectrum. Most local objects of this type are believed to be ionized by a central AGN source and the ionization parameter in the emission line region is low compared with Seyfert 2 galaxies. They are also believed to reside in galaxies with old stellar population. Our recent study of a sample of 97 LINERs at redshift of about 0.3 show a very different picture. Thirty five LINERs have high Herschel/PACS fluxes that can be translated to a star formation rate (SFR) of about 10 solar mass/yr. This is very different from local LINERs and more similar to local LIRGs. The comparison with the measured stellar mass locate them close to the main sequence of star formation. The z=0.3 LINERs also show higly extincted UV continuum and H-alpha which is an order of magnitude below what is expected for such a SFR. We will show our SED fits of the sources and discuss the various possibilities to explain this finding, including the possibility that some local LINERs form stars at a much higher rate than believed until now and the idea that we are looking at post starburst systems.
