Line by line (LBL) calculations are performed to generate hot-band lines of H2O vapor from spectroscopic cold-band data. The data bases employed account for transitions of levels from 000-010, and a narrow band statistical model is defined using transitions at 25/cm intervals. Approximations are made of the hot-band data and compared with the experimental spectra for the 1000-4200/cm, 900-1500 K, and 2000-70,000 Pa-m ranges. Comparisons are made between the approximations and those obtained previously by Lindquist and Simons (1972), whose formal approach is found to lead to underestimations of absorption. The low estimates partially compensate for the random statistics of the line-by-line model, which overestimates absorption.
