According to the decay modes of the meson vectors ρ and K* produced in the final state of the leading clusters in π+/--Air and K+/--Air collisions, as predicted by the spin statistics and quark parton models, the leading particle effect in cosmic ray cascade is reduced when compared with simulations without resonances in final states. The decrease of charge exchange predicted by the dual parton model increases also the hadronic cascading during the shower initiation.
The Δ resonance produced in p-Air collisions has similar effects and also important consequences for high energy neutron production.
Some consequences for large EAS development, such as fluctuation of maximum depth compared with Fly's Eye results, hadron energy spectrum in relation with Tian Shan results and muon-electron abundance are described.
