From the analysis of 93 quiet-sun profiles of the 1393-A line of Si IV it is concluded that line profiles from the quiet transition region undergo a marked broadening with distance from the center of the solar disk. Most of the broadening appears to be due to an increase in the optical depth of the emitting regions towards the limb, indicating approximately isotropic disturbances. A more detailed analysis of the 1393-A line suggests that the horizontal amplitude may be somewhat greater than the radial amplitude. An analysis of the integrated intensities versus position from the center of the disk imply a value of 0.22 plus or minus 0.16 for the disk-center optical depth of the Si IV line at 1393 A.
