The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) on the Sloan Telescope will make a 3-D map of hydrogen gas using the Ly-alpha forest along the line of sight to 160,000 QSOs at 2.2 < z < 3.5. The power spectrum of this map will make the first measure of dark energy at z > 2.
We present a likelihood estimator for selecting QSOs from SDSS photometry to a magnitude limit of g=22. The efficiency and completeness of this technique is measured from the BOSS commissioning data in Fall 2009.
