Light variations with amplitude greater than 0.05m have been found in 78 bright, M-type stars. The variation for about one-half these objects has also been found by others. The boundary of the red instability region in the (M_B, T_e) plane is near the temperature represented by (102,65) = -0.6m (blackbody color temperature near 3400deg) for these disk population stars. Comparison with the narrow band, continuum colors, (102,65), shows the lack of resolution, for these red giants, of the MK spectral types and the (B-V) colors.
