The mean lifetime is determined of some levels of Mn I and Cr I that were populated by two-step excitation in an atomic beam by means of two dye lasers pumped simultaneously with a nitrogen pulse laser. The exponential decay of fluorescence light is measured indirectly, using the method of delayed coincidences. The lifetimes of both resonance levels are tabulated.
