Black Holes: Detection
Scientific paper
Reasons why black holes are so difficult to detect observationally are obvious. The author reviews the few observational arguments for the real existence of black holes in various astrophysical sites such diverse as X-ray binary sources (for stellar mass black holes) and galactic nuclei (for giant back holes). The author describes briefly the methods of (indirect) detection and discusses in more details some exemplary cases.
