The lateral distribution functions (LDFs) and energy spectra of muons with energy greater than 5 GeV in small EAS (Ne = 8000-200,000) at mountain level are determined from experimental observations, presented in graphs, and compared with the results of model simulations. The flatness of the LDF is reproduced by using a Gaussian secondary-p(t) distribution and taking the energy spectrum, a mixed chemical composition, an isotropic angular distribution of the primaries, and the triggering conditions into account. The muon-component energy is found to be well correlated with the total number of muons (Nmu), and the dependence of Nmu on Ne supports a model with weak scaling violation.
