We present evolutionary population synthesis models aiming to study the formation and the statistics of cool and luminous late-type stellar populations in galaxies. Effects of star formation and chemical evolution of the parent galaxies are investigated. Our models are able to reproduce for the first time the observed statistics on Local Group galaxies. These models represent a powerful tool to analyze the large amount of the availible and forthcoming data on resolved galaxies.
