The completion of the full HIPASS catalogue has opened up exciting new opportunities for studying the HI properties of galaxies. Forming the largest blind catalogue of HI sources compiled to date, this catalogue enables the study of HI selected galaxies across a wide range of morphologies and environments, facilitating a deeper understanding of the role of neutral hydrogen gas in galaxy formation and evolution. The large-scale structure observed in the HIPASS catalogue is examined, looking at features such the Local Void - new contraints on which are provided by the HIPASS sample - as well as structure normally obscured by the Milky Way. These results are compared to those of exisiting, traditionally optical, samples. In addition, the near infra-red properties of the HIPASS galaxies are investigated, in particular the Tully-Fisher relation and the interplay between galactic stellar and gas mass contents.
