The clustering of cosmic matter on large scale is a fundamental problem in cosmology. In this paper the review on Jeans theory and Zel'dovich approximation is presented. It is shown that kinetic description of a two-component self-gravitating systems with nonlinear interaction is a modern research subject on the clustering. It is shown that the structures of self-gravitating systems can be described by nonlinear coupling equations; the perturbation fields may collapse and form a pancake-like structure. For cosmic condition, the characteristic scales of the clusters, the superclusters, and the voids is obtained.
