We discuss recent determinations of the quantity beta = Omega0.6/b from comparisons of the large-scale velocity and density field, with emphasis on the discrepancies that different authors are currently finding. We discuss the validity of the linear bias model that is so often assumed in these analyses, and indicate how deviations from this model may affect interpretations of large-scale flows.
