The effect of temporal variations in solar-wind velocity on the configuration of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) is considered. It is shown that these variations may cause long-term (about 48 hr) deviations of the magnetic-field vector from the spiral one, resulting in 'kink'-type configurations. The variations can also decrease the sectorally averaged angle determining the IMF direction.
