A review of experimental results shows that the flight of a rocket with a working engine causes large-scale disturbances in a wide range of ionospheric heights: from the E region to heights exceeding the maximum of the F2 region. Two types of disturbances were identified in the F region: prolonged reduction of electron density and the occurrence of undulating damped oscillations of the electron density. Theoretical data on disturbances in the F2 region are reviewed.
