The two currently used analytical models for large-scale structure are examined with consideration given to their drawbacks: the Zel'dovich (1970) approximation and the extension to the 'adhesion approximation' (Gurbatov et al. (1989); Shandarin and Zeldovich (1989)). Then, the Lagrangian perturbation theory is presented to provide a key alternative. Several available models are discussed in the framework of numerical simulations.
