Three promising approaches to the study of the oscillations and the stability of galaxies within the framework of Lagrangian perturbation theory are provided by (1) an N-body method for a numerical solution of the Lagrangian perturbation equations, (2) a matrix method of the Rayleigh-Ritz type for a stellar-hydrodynamical solution of the perturbation equations, and (3) a matrix method of the Rayleigh-Ritz type for a fully stellar-dynamical solution of the perturbation equations. This poster describes the formulations of the three methods, their applications to the study of the radial pulsations of a spherical galaxy, and a comparison of the results of those applications. In addition, the poster outlines prospects for more general applications of these methods to nonradial modes in spherical systems and to modes in non-spherical systems.
