The first spectroscopic identification of CH3CNH+ was made by observing the ν1(NH stretch) fundamental band (ν0 = 3527.288 cm-1) with a difference frequency laser. The spectroscopic constants were determined for the ground state, and the rotational transition frequencies were calculated to assist in identifying this molecular ion in interstellar clouds.
