Laboratory experiments reveal redshifts and broadening of the spectral lines emanating from a mercury discharge as the Hg photons pass through a separate long discharge tube ("plasma tube") filled with other atomic and/or molecular gases. The source, the intervening medium, and the detector are stationary with respect to each other. The observed relative wavelength shift of the spectral lines (Z) is independent of wavelength similar to the Doppler effect. Possible theoretical interpretations are suggested including "correlation induced wavelength shifts" caused by scattering of the electromagnetic radiation by the medium (Wolf Effects). These experimental results may have application to discordant redshifts in astronomy such as Quasars, Type 1A Supernova, etc.
