We briefly review the characteristics of various photomultipliers used in astronomical obserwations in the wide spectral range from 130 to 1100 nm. Modern electronic photomultipliers of the kvantakon class are shown to be promising light detectors for the wavelength range 320...1070 nm. We describe some investigations which allow the kvantakon operation mode to be optimized and give recommendations for the application of these photomultipliers.
