We have used data from the Local Group Galaxies Survey taken on the KPNO 4-m telescope and mosaic camera by Massey et al. (2006), combined with our own survey carried out from the 0.6-m Burrell Schmidt, for a census of the supernova remnant (SNR) population in M33. Both surveys imaged the entire galaxy in three emission lines: Hα, [S II] λλ 6716, 6731, and [O III] λ 5007, plus broad (LGGS) or narrow (Schmidt survey) continuum frames that can be used to subtract most of the stars and give a clearer view of faint diffuse emission. Since shock-excited material characteristic of SNRs displays a [S II]/Hα ratio significantly higher than those found in H II regions or other photoionized structures, this ratio provides a convenient diagnostic for identifying SNRs. We have identified 15 strong candidate SNRs, all of which show high [S II]/Hα ratios and clear shell structures. We have also found at least 5 larger (>100 pc diameter) shell structures that have high [S II]/Hα and are probably shock-dominated supershells. Many of the new candidates are located in the outer regions of the galaxy that were not covered by the Gordon et al. survey, while others are faint objects detected because the new surveys have improved sensitivity and continuum subtraction when compared with Gordon et al. We will report size measurements and emission-line photometry for the previously cataloged remnants and our new candidates, resulting in a number-diameter distribution and luminosity functions that are more complete than any previously reported. We will also correlate our optical catalog with previous catalogs of extended radio and X-ray sources in M33 and with new Chandra X-ray data from the ChASeM33 survey. This work is funded by NSF Grant AST-0307613.
