The anomalous component of cosmic rays (ACR's) is part of the energetic particle distribution measured in our heliosphere. It consists of interstellar neutrals that enter the heliosphere, are ionized by UV radiation, and subsequently picked up by the solar wind, and accelerated up to several 100 MeV/n at the termination shock. First order Fermi acceleration, also known, as diffuse shock acceleration is most likely the process that accelerates these ions. However, up to energies of about 10 Mev/n the process of injection and acceleration is not fully understood. In the past theoretical considerations, numerical simulations, and observations were very efficient studying these processes at stationary shocks, such as the Earth's bow shock, and traveling shocks, such as shocks associated with interplanetary discontinuities. Advances have been made in both areas. We will thus report on recent findings from kinetic simulations and observations and their implications on shock structure, injection, and acceleration at the termination shock and at interplanetary discontinuities.
