Various microscopic processes for the triggering and spreading of anomalous resistivity in the solar-flare flash phase are discussed. Among these processes are low-frequency current-driven instabilities, wave filamentation, and high-frequency parametric instabilities driven by particle beams. The role of these processes in producing runaway and statistical acceleration is discussed. A possible observational test of the state of plasma turbulence in the flare volume is suggested.
