Dynamo Theory: Plasma Jets
Scientific paper
The equilibrium analysis of a nonneutral beam-plasma system shows that the fluid components rotate along the cylindrial axis. When the relativistic electrons propagate through the plasma background of jets, the differential rotation rate will amplify the magnetic fields by kinematic screw dynamo mechanism. The flow deceleration and expansion along the jet axis make the transverse components of the generated magnetic field increase and the longitudinal one decrease, but the total magnetic field energy increases. The generated magnetic fields concentrate within a thin layer which is benefitial for the confinement of jets.
