A statistical analysis is made of a sample of powerful radio galaxies from the paper of Longair and Riley (1979). It is shown that the asymmetry parameter does not depend on the projection of the linear dimension of the radio galaxy, which indicates an absence of evolution of the velocity of the ejected plasma clouds in the framework of the model of Ryle and Longair (1967). A method is proposed for determining the distribution of the probabilities with respect to the separation velocities of the radio components on the basis of the distribution of the probabilities of the projections of the linear size of the radio sources. Application of this method to the sample of Longair and Riley for the case of a fixed lifetime of the radio sources reveals internal inconsistency in the model of Ryle and Longair. The observed distribution of the projections of the linear dimension of the radio galaxies agrees with the model of Blandford and Rees (1974) if the velocities of the hot spots have characteristic value less than about 0.03 c.
