Scientific paper

The theoretical difficulties of spaceflight analyzed by Johannes Kepler in his Latin manuscript 'Somnium sive de astronomia lunari' (c. 1608) are discussed. The gravitational effects of earth and the moon, the effect of solar radiation on crew members, and the need for life-support systems outside the earth's atmosphere were predicted by Kepler. In addition, the relationship between Kepler's anthropocentric viewpoint and the theories of Copernicus and Giordano Bruno is mentioned.
