The galaxy distribution on large scales and over a large redshift range can help constrain the equation of state of dark energy. All large aperture telescopes are currently inequipped for carrying out such surveys. We present an instrument concept for the Gemini Telescopes which would greatly enable such studies: KAOS, a 1.5 degree field of view, 5000 fiber prime-focus spectrograph.
