Japanese astronomy began in the seventh century. Before the mid-nineteenth century, Japanese astronomy followed the Tang Dynasty's style, and then followed western astronomy. Compared with the situation in Hungary, Japanese astronomers were trapped in the traditional system. The development in astrometry was prominent at the beginning of the twentieth century, but the introduction of astrophysical observation was delayed. A brief discussion on the reasons for this is included at the end of this paper.
