IYA programs in Canada were guided by a partnership formed in 2005-2006 between the two largest organizations of (predominantly) amateur astronomers, the Féderation des astronomes amateurs du Québec and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, and the organization of professional astronomers, the Canadian Astronomical Society. Our vision was "To offer an engaging astronomy experience to every person in Canada, and to cultivate partnerships that sustain public interest in astronomy.” Examples are provided of major activities accomplished, of their impact, and of their potential legacies beyond 2009.
