The International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) is one of the longest living and most successful spacecraft ever launched. NASA decided to discontinue spacecraft operations. ESA proposed a complete revision of the operations and science support procedures. The application of modern management and engineering techniques have made it possible to continue the project for one year. This article describes the technical aspects and the implementation of the last year of IUE operations.
