We propose to obtain simultaneous IUE (1200 - 3000 A) and Voyager (912 - 1200 A) observations of SS Cygni through two outbursts. The combined IUE and Voyager data (along with proposed simultaneous ground based and X-ray observations) would provide the most complete spectral coverage to date of a dwarf nova in outburst. Observing two outbursts (one long duration and one short duration) is proposed because of theoretical suggestions that they may differ in the UV and very tentative Voyager results that imply that the short outbursts are deficient in far-UV flux. The data from the two spacecraft will be combined to form flux distribution sequences and used to explore the evolution of the disk from the initial stages of the outburst, through maximum, to quiescence. Existing models for accretion disks will be used in the analysis. Particular attention will be paid to the inner accretion disk/boundary layer region that provides most of the far-UV flux.
