Isophotal contour maps of a single large photospheric granule are presented, derived from three high-quality photographs taken within a short time interval. The brightness distribution is markedly asymmetrical, both the brightest and darkest points being located away from the geometrical centre. The maps show real structural features on a scale down to ≡0arcsec.5, but smaller distortions in the isophotes are artifacts due to residual seeing effects.
