In addressing ISO's observations of asteroids we attempt a complete overview, from the original scientific ideas - to the current results - to what can be expected in the future. ISO has delivered a wealth of new and unexpected results concerning asteroids, but the archive still has many hidden treasures. In the near future, ISO's mid- and far-infrared data, in combination with other observations, will provide new advances in our understanding of the Solar System and new insights into the interrelations between meteorites, asteroids, comets and interplanetary material, all of which play fundamental roles in the Solar System's history and evolution.
