Cosmic Density Parameter

Scientific paper

The authors argue that the cosmological density parameter Ω0 might be meaningless in a spatially infinite universe. Following Ellis and Schreiber's idea of a topologically nontrivial, lumpy small universe, they construct an illustrative model that would account for discrepancies in estimates of Ω0 as the result of strong inhomogeneity, in the same scale as the universe's size. A contribution of peculiar gravity to the redshift of distant images, in the line of Sachs-Wolfe effect but without the linear approximation, is derived.
