It is argued that the 4 dimensional space-time description of the physical universe, which treats the spatial and temporal coordinates on equal footing is not correct. While Gedanken experiments can be pictured in this description and several physical measurements entail these mathematical formulations, the common laboratory measurements of elongated life-times and extended travel paths of unstable particles are not amenable to this picture. It is further reasoned that the problem, at least in part, is due to the insistence that time, which is not an independent observable, is treated on the equal footing as spatial dimensions.
