Evidence is presented that the bulk of the Ni-rich Santa Catharina ataxite consists of up to 50% Fe-Ni superstructure. The data, based on Moessbauer spectra, electron microprobes, and X-ray measurements, indicate that the Santa Catharina meteorite differs from the Cape York and Toluca meteorites. It is suggested that the ordered Fe-Ni in Santa Catharina and in other meteorites is probably a result of slow cooling of the parent body.
