Scientific paper

Robert Edwin Peary, the polar explorer, financed his expeditions with funds from museums. In return, he gave the museums artifacts found on his travels. Peary had several failed expeditions until his discovery of three giant meteorites in Greenland. The native Inuit had incorporated these meteorites into their folklore and used the metal from them to make tools even though they were technically a stone-aged culture. Peary gave the Inuit steel tools in exchange for their meteorites, one of which weighed 34 tons, to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
