Star formation in the Milky Way Galaxy was studied using IRAS data for Barnard 5, the Her Haro (HH) object L1551, HH46 and 47 towards the Gum nebula, and a 1 square degree area of Chameleon 1. It is suggested that hot sources are unrelated field stars. Warm sources, (color temperatures around 100 K) occur predominantly at the center of the star-formation activity, in the densest part of the cloud, several being associated with known pre-main sequence objects. The remaining new ones have similar spectra over the IRAS range, but shorter wavelength observations are required to distinguish which of these are pre-main sequence stars and which belong to an even earlier collapse phase. Sources seen only at 60 and 100 microns lie on the outskirts of the main cloud and may be similar to dark globules.
