The detection of fast-moving solar-system objects during the quick-look processing of IRAS observations is discussed, and some results are summarized. The blackbody radiation of a solar-system object is characterized, the design of the IRAS survey is explained, and the fast-mover-identification programs developed are outlined. Major discoveries described include the comet IRAS-Araki-Alcock (April, 1983) the long thin tail of comet Tempel 2, (July, 1983), and four earth-crossing asteroids. The factors leading to the detection of far fewer earth-crossing asteroids than had been predicted are analyzed.
