The authors have examined a sample of 51 stars observed spectroscopically in the near infrared and by IRAS. They found an interesting correlation between the Ca II triplet emission and the IRAS excess: when the IRAS excess is large, Ca II is in emission; when the excess is small, no Ca II is present. This relation clarifies somewhat the erratic behavior of the Ca II triplet in the Be stars.
