During the past decade, images of Jupiter's auroras have revealed a strong electrodynamic interaction between Io's atmosphere and plasma in Jupiter's magnetosphere. This process is responsible for the moon's auroral footprint in Jupiter's auroral region. Previous observations of Io's magnetic footprints used HST/STIS images taken in Dec 2000 - Jan 2001 [Serio and Clarke, Icarus, 2008 in press]. The footprint brightness was observed over a wide range of Io orbital longitude. The variation of Io's footprint brightness is a good signature of the interaction between the planet's magnetosphere and satellite's atmosphere. According to their results, the brightness of Io's magnetic footprint is highly correlated with Io's position in the plasma torus. The footprint emission appears brightest when Io is in the center region of plasma torus. In this paper we study the brightness of Io's footprint using the much larger data set obtained during the 2007 HST campaigns. We verify the variation observed by Serio and Clarke [2008] with significantly better statistics than their original investigation and discuss the interpretation of these results.
