The X-ray pulsar Her X-1 in the double star system Her X-1/HZ Her was studied by EXOSAT. The uninterrupted observation of Her X-1 during a complete 1.7 day orbital period allowed the determination of the geometric parameters of the double star system. These parameters were used to calculate the masses of Her X-1 and HZ Her. The 1.24 sec rotation period of Her X-1 was determined with high accuracy. The variability of the source was determined for several phases of the 35 day intensity cycle, in agreement with model predictions. Another variability with a 35 day period is found from the emergence of Her X-1 from eclipsing by HZ Her.
