In October, 1975, Venera-10 made a soft landing on the sunlit side of the planet Venus. The results of densitometric measurements have shown that the rock in the landing site has a density of 2.8 plus or minus 0.1 g/cu cm. The density value agrees with the concepts of the basalt composition of the planet's crust. The relatively high density of the uppermost layer of the rock which was measured is indicative of the low intensity of the erosion processes taking place on the planet.
