Balloon flight results concerning Her X-1 are discussed. The hard X-ray radiation was determined during the low-on low-off state, and agrees with measured curves. The 1.24 sec light curve shows a strongly different pulse form in the 3 phases of the 35 day period. The continuum spectra have the same spectral form in the three phases, but different intensity; line energy allows the calculation of the neutron star magnetic field strength. Intensity and form of the continuum, and the first harmonic line intensities agree well. The parameter describing the continuum and the spectral structure does not show time variability. The functional dependence of the cyclotron resonance energy on the 1.24 sec pulse phase is well fitted by a sine curve. The amplitude of the variation of emission line energy is 4 to 5 times higher than that of absorption line energy. The hard X-ray radiation originates from a hot optically thick layer of the polar cap. The cyclotron line appears in the absorption and shows a thermal Doppler broadening.
